Natural Resource Sites

Abbott Marshlands includes a combination of marsh and swampland. The Marshlands include tidal streams, ponds and beaver dams, islands dotted with trees, and wooded uplands along the slopes of bluffs that surround three sides of the Marshlands.

Amico Island is a 55-acre peninsula featuring a upland forests, freshwater ponds and wetlands, river shoreline and meadows. Visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing and picnicking at the confluence of the Rancocas Creek and Delaware River.

Biles Island is currently being developed into a 525 acre recreational site by ACT Engineers under the direction of Falls Township.

Bristol Marsh is a freshwater tidal marsh located along the Delaware River, just southwest of Bristol Borough’s Historic District. It is one of the few remaining freshwater tidal marshes along the Delaware River.

Burlington Island is a 300 acre island which was the location of the first recorded settlement in New Jersey and extends back to 1624. The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge is a 1000 acre National Wildlife Refuge spanning Philadelphia and Delaware counties. The refuge was established in 1972 for the goals of preserving, restoring, and developing the Tinicum Marsh.

Palmyra Cove Nature Park is 250 acres of green in a highly developed area on the Delaware River just south of the Tacony Palmyra Bridge. The site features woodlands, wetlands, tidal cove and wild river shore line and serves as an important feeding site for migratory birds.
