On April 11, the Central Delaware Advocacy Group is partnering with United by Blue to host the second annual Delaware River Waterfront Cleanup. Last year’s cleanup removed 6,220 pounds of debris from the river, including 116 shopping carts.
The cleanup is from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and volunteers meet at Pier 68 on the Delaware (the address is 1601 Columbus Boulevard: it’s the parking lot between Walmart and Old Navy.) The cleanup will be between Pier 70 and Pier 53 on the Delaware. Have you checked out the Delaware River piers yet? Pier 53 is now the Washington Avenue Pier, and Pier 68 is under development to become a passive recreation park. The other, undeveloped piers are such interesting landscapes that show off Philadelphia’s industrial heritage. This cleanup is a great way to explore a rarely-seen side of Philly and help beautify it!
All supplies are provided, but you should wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. The clean-up is followed by a free lunch catered by Whole Foods and Rocco’s. Who says no to free lunch?
RSVP to cleanup@unitedbyblue.com or call 215-278-7858! You must RSVP by April 7th to get in on the free lunch situation.
