The Canoemobile is a roving fleet of six, 24-foot Voyageur canoes supported by Wilderness Inquiry that travels across America to bring environmental literacy to urban youth. The Tidal Delaware is currently the lucky host of the program, and over the last two weeks Canoemobile paddled with more than 2,000 Philadelphia, Camden, and Wilmington students in their “floating classrooms” on our local rivers. The student participants have loved the experience. PHL17 reports that eighth grader Effy Kameika said, “I felt relaxed and also empowered by the experience.” The fun is not stopping: next week the Canoemobile is headed to Chester and Reading, and a very special community day, free and open to the public, is happening on October 18 on the Schuylkill River at Bartram’s Gardens in Philly.
