Trip Planning - Tidal Delaware River Mouth of the Darby Creek Tour

Safety considerations (orange text indicates consideration applicable to kayaker only)

In addition to standard safety information, consider the following safety concerns:

There is a road bridge that crosses Darby Creek as it approaches the Delaware River. Currents around bridges may be swift. Exercise caution.

This area can become busy with ships and anchorage area activity.

The area between Little Tinicum Island and the PA main land is a no-wake zone.

If you choose to venture up Darby Creek into the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, note that Darby Creek is tidal as well, and the water is only deep enough to navigate upstream to the refuge’s ramp two hours before and two hours after high tide.

While the area between Little Tinicum Island and the PA main land is a no-wake zone, it is also an anchorage area, so be cautious of large ships maneuvering.
